About us

Carter Hill Technologies was founded to bring strong information security and expert technology services to small businesses in the Triangle at a reasonable cost.

Ray Harris founded Carter Hill in 2001. He had just finished a five-year tour in the Air Force working with advanced information technologies. His last assignment was to help establish the Air Force's first information warfare school.

In the Air Force information warfare school, Air Force personnel learned how to secure and defend information systems that are under severe attack from enemy forces. Ray developed courseware for the school, taught in its first classes, and designed and managed the network for the school's new permanent facility. While the networks being defended were classified, most of the tools and techniques to secure them are not. Ray brings this expert level of security knowledge to your company.

Ray also holds a Master's Degree in Computer Science and a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering. He has earned several certificates including the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification, the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification, the SANS GSEC certification, and the CompTIA Network+ and Security+ certifications. He assisted in developing the CompTIA Security+ certification by serving as a subject matter expert.

Where did the name "Carter Hill" come from? Our founder, Ray Harris, grew up in a small town in Mississippi next door to his great grandfather, Robert Carter. "Mr. Bob," as he was known by everyone in town, lived on a farm just outside of town. In the middle of the farm was a hill that was the highest point in town and was referred to by some as "Carter Hill".

Growing up, Ray learned the honesty of a hard day's work, the integrity of respecting others, and the value of a good education. Now, Mr. Bob is no longer with us and the original Carter Hill has been leveled by modern growth. But the lessons that were learned there still guide the way for Carter Hill Technologies today.
